Microsoft Licensing Update for June

With the fiscal year-end approaching, Microsoft’s licensing updates this month are relatively minimal, but there are some key changes worth noting:

Universal License Terms for Online Services:
Microsoft updated terms for Azure Generative AI services, clarifying limitations on Training content. Microsoft Generative AI Services will not use Input or Output Content to train or improve Azure OpenAI Service models. Additionally, customers are restricted from using these services to generate synthetic training data to develop models with similar functionality to Microsoft AI services, with limited exceptions for fine-tuning as noted in the Azure OpenAI Limited Access registration.

Privacy & Security Terms:

• Yammer rebranded to Viva in the offerings.
• Microsoft Sentinel has been added to the Core Online Services table, enhancing Microsoft’s commitment to security and compliance.
• Azure DDOS Protection and Azure Bastion are now included in the Azure Core Online Services table.
• Microsoft Defender for Identity now includes a clause for automatic updates, allowing updates to be downloaded and installed automatically.

Additional Service-Specific Terms:

• Azure Maps: Updated to reflect the integration of Bing Maps functionality, with restrictions on use in autonomous vehicles and dashboard-connected devices.
• Microsoft Defender for Endpoint: Added to the Availability Table and Prerequisites Table, now also eligible for the Student Use Benefit Entitlements through qualifying programs.
